That adventure sounds like a disaster! To the random encounter discussion, I think Jonathan Williams has a good technique, but it all depends on the adventure you’re running. Playing a sandbox like the Isle of Dread? Roll every hex and see what happens. Playing a narrative-focused adventure? Don’t use random encounters at all.
